Recruit Reserve

L5R CCG Rules board, 22 June 2014 to 23 June 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I play Cavalry Escort and Recruit Seiken into the current battlefield. I use Seiken's Interrupt to recruit my target Daidoji Bob. Does Bob enter play at the current battlefield, or at home? Does Seiken enter play at the battlefield or at home? Why does Reserve specify current battlefield as reminder text? In addition, the Reserve action specifies that you Recruit a Personality. Does that meant Reserve Followers don't work?

In any situation, can you explain why with any relevant rules references please?

Recruit Repeatable Dynasty, (*): Bring into play a face-up Personality or Holding from your Province with Gold Cost equal to the amount you paid, paying 2 more Gold if the Personality has a Clan Alignment but does not have your Clan Alignment.

Seiken Interrupt: After you Recruit Seiken, Recruit a non-Unique Samurai with lower Gold Cost, ignoring costs.

Cav Escort Battle, (*) : If this Follower is in your hand, Recruit your target Personality (paying all costs) for 5 more gold and attach this Follower (ignoring all costs) to him.

Reserve Absent Repeatable Battle, (*) : If he would be opposed, Recruit your target Reserve Personality (into the current battlefield).

EDIT: Realised my rules pdf was out of date, the May 20th has the line "Then, the Recruited card is brought into play, bowed if it is a Holding. Personalities Recruited during a battle enter play in their controller’s army at the current battlefield."

So that answers that then. False alarm rules guys!

Still interested about Reserve though.

Reminder text says so because that's what reminder texts are for - to remind things that already are. As you noted, we forgot to include that rules text but we included it once we realized it wasn't where it should be.

About Reserve, you should note that there have always been not one but two different abilities for the Reserve keyword, one for Personalities (the one you quoted) and one for attachments. See pg 58 from the CR:

Repeatable Battle, (*): If it would be opposed, Equip a Reserve attachment to your target Personality (at the current battlefield).
