Kaiu Sugimoto vs. Recruit

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 June 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 13 June 2014

I go first and bring out Kaiu Sugimoto xp.

My opponent (still with no personalities in play) takes his turn, moves to Dynasty phase, attempts to Recruit a holding. I use Sugimoto's reaction to give an "impossible" cost to the Recruit action. What happens?

Your opponent announces the Recruit action. You react with Sugimoto xp Your opponent, assuming they're sane, pays 0G. The action gains an additional cost of bowing a Personality, and since this cannot be met, the action's effects do not occur. The other player may not bring into play a Personality with 0 gold cost or less.

Your opponent then announces Recruit again and proceeds as normal.
