Strategies: Open Emotion + Insight

L5R CCG Rules board, 25 April 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Open Emotion [IvE, Rare] 0GC Bushido Virtue*Honesty Bushido Virtue Open: Rehonor a target Samurai. Bushido Virtue Open: Target your unbowed Samurai. Show a Strategy in your hand. Once this turn, while you are the Defender, you may take a Battle action from that card as an Engage action.

Insight [IvE, Rare] 0GC Dark Virtue*Insight Dark Virtue Battle: Target your Samurai. Look at the top three cards of any Fate deck. You may rearrange them. You may take an additional Battle action to play one of them that is a Battle Strategy.

If I target my Samurai with Open Emotion's 2nd open action and show Insight. I then choose to play Insight as my Engage action, looking at my opponent's Fate deck and pick a card with a Battle Strategy amongst them. What happens? Do I get to play that card immediately (as an Engage)? Or is the opportunity wasted and just gain an extra battle action to play that card after the Engagement phase?

The additional Battle action granted by Insight is taken as an additional action in the Engage Segment's Action Round.
