L5R CCG Rules board, 21 April 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I'm confused about whether you can , or not recruit an experienced personality with an experience level of 2 if i already have the same personality in play but with an experience level of 1.

Example: I have Daidoji tametaka exp in play and wish to bring Daidoji tametaka exp2 into play without overlay.

In page 31 of the advanced rule book, it says that you can bring a personality with the same name into play as long as his experience level is superior to the one in play , and that overlaying is an option.

Thanks in advance, Regards!!!

No, you cannot do that, since both cards are Unique and have the same title, per the rules for Unique.

Sorry, I can't find the bit to which you're referring. At most, I found this on pg. 32:

"During the Dynasty Phase, you may bring an Experienced Personality into play normally, or you may overlay him onto one of your Personalities of the same type in play with the same title, but lower experience level[.]"

In that passage, "normally" would mean adhering to the restrictions upon Unique and titles. Which means you can bring him into that way, but if you don't wish to (because you only control non-Unique Tametaka, but don't want to overlay him) OR IF YOU CAN'T (because you already control the Unique Exp1 and therefore cannot normally Recruit the Exp2), THEN you also have the option of Overlaying.

I hope that clears everything up.
