A player, 20 April 2014
I'm a new player, and I have a few questions about how cavalry works.
My understanding is that cavalry is an engage action - which means that after a battle is declared, but before the defender or naval player makes the first battle action, I can move a unit with cavalry to the battlefield. Is that correct?
Further questions that have been points of contention and that I have been unable to find an answer for in the rule book:
Is it that you can only move one unit per turn using cavalry, or one unit per battle?
Under the advanced rules, when a battle is declared a battlefield is created at each of the defenders provinces. Is it possible to declare an attack against one province, wait for defenders to be assigned, then move a cavalry unit to an unopposed battlefield?
Opinions welcome.
Much obliged,
Sean Nyhan

Indeed, it is.
Further questions that have been points of contention and that I have been unable to find an answer for in the rule book:
[1]Is it that you can only move one unit per turn using cavalry, or one unit per battle?
[2]Under the advanced rules, when a battle is declared a battlefield is created at each of the defenders provinces. Is it possible to declare an attack against one province, wait for defenders to be assigned, then move a cavalry unit to an unopposed battlefield?
1. The former. Like any other action that doesn't say "Repeatable", the Cavalry movement ability is by default only once per turn.
2. Well, generally, yes you can do what you said, but some clarifications:
Declaring an attack isn't directed at a particular Province. You as a player say you're attacking another player, then battlefields are created at each of his Provinces. First, you assign any attacking Personalities you wish, then he assigns defending ones. You choose the order in which each battle is fought (1 at each battlefield), and as an Engage action at one of them, once per turn, you can move in one of your your Cavalry units.
Opinions welcome.
Um, well, technically, no. ;P Opinions aren't welcome here in the Rules Forum; only official members of the L5R Rules Team are able to reply here, and we only do so with officially accurate answers.
Much obliged,
