Isawa Uzuyumi and another Questions

L5R CCG Rules board, 30 March 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hello -

I had a couple of questions that have come up in our local games. First is Isawa Uzuyumi. As the soul of Isawa Riake who in turn is the soul of Isawa Tomo all of the previous versions were able to use their abilities as "absent" under the current definition because rules of location and presence allowed abilities to be used as long as it created presence by the end of the action. Should Uzuyumi ability have the "absent" descriptor as well? Or have the rules of location and presence changed in Ivory Edition?

In addition, does the cavalry maneuver action (the absent engage) come from the personality or is it a player action granted by the rulebook? I ask this because when the Scorpion stronghold targets Daidoji Gensai if the player controlling Gensai announces that he uses his cavalry trait does the Scorpion Stronghold cancel this action or does the action proceed because the action didn't originate with Gensai, but instead from the rulebook?

Thanks for the help

Isawa Uzuyumi is certainly a bit inferior to his former version. "Soul ofs" are sometimes less powerful than their previous incarnations. Uzuyumi is not Absent.

It is a player action from the rulebook, and it does not come from the Personality. The Shadowed Estate of the Scorpion won't negate your Cavalry Engage action.
