Combining Ranged attacks

As a follow-up to this: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=107375

There was a previous ruling stating that combining ranged attacks is considered to be using those abilities: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=106556

I understand that you meant it's considered so because of the "Once per turn" rule but, to me, it also meant that you were resolving all side effects of all the ranged attacks.

Ex: Combining the ranged attack of Agasha Kyokuta and Tsuruchi Longbow would create a force bonus, a ranged attack equal to the focus value +2 (from the combination) and give me the choice to destroy the longbow to move home.

If I understand right from the ruling I'm following up, "combining" ranged attacks would only mean add up the numbers of the ranged attacks and resolve the side effects of the "main" ranged. Is this indeed how it should be ?
