A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Nothing in the new bowing mechanics say that only cards in play can be bowed. So that means I can bow a fudo ring that is in my hand by turning it sideways compared to the rest of my hand and then show it to use it effects. My only question is do I discard it afterwards or does it return to my hand going face down and out of play so that I can re-use it?
Edit: Yes I know this is a ridiculous question.

Cards out of play cannot be bowed.
This will be addressed in the CR document to come, and I will recommend it be added to the Rules Reference document.
And before anyone asks about Togashi Korimi, I'll direct you to the top of page 9 of the Rules Reference, and the Exception for taking Interrupts on a card out of play.

Apart of what my esteemed colleague has said, let me add that presuming that some rule has changed secretly isn't going to get far in a discussion. Even if the new rules don't explicitly tell something, you can safely assume that there are no unannounced rules changes there. Since we haven't announced that cards out of play can be bowed, even if that isn't explicitly said in the Reference Rules, that means that cards out of play still can't be bowed. If we haven't said it is changing, then it isn't changing. Whenever we make changes of that nature they'll be published in this subforum.
