Ranged target

L5R CCG Rules board, 10 February 2014 to 11 February 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi, how you guys doing? Missing my really important questions already?

I remember reading somewhere (citation needed, huh?) that Ranged attacks need targeting again, but for the life of me, I can't find it. So, do Ranged/Melee/Fear require a target in order to be announced? Couldn't find it in the rulebook, advanced rulebook nor in the 'what changed' rulebook.

I also thought about the Good Faith Rule, but I'm never right when I try to invoke this rule.

EDIT: Spelling only. Thanks Mamoru!

Yes. In Ivory Edition, the "you may" clause in the shorthand for Ranged X / Melee X Attacks will be removed, so both expressions will be shorthands for "Target a Follower or a Personality without Followers in the current enemy army. If its Force is equal to or less than X, destroy it.” Similarly, Fear X will be shorthand for "Target a Follower or a Personality without Followers in the current enemy army. If its Force is equal to or less than X, bow it."

And Good Faith Rule says the action is only legal if you can satisfy the targets to the best of your knowledge.
