Politcal Standoff + Absolution

L5R CCG Rules board, 15 January 2014 to 16 January 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I have seen this come up a few times.

Will Absolution prevent Political Standoff from coming into play?

Political Standoff: This Event will not be discarded or have its effects prevented.

Absolution: Interrupt: Negate an Event's effects.

My understanding is that you can negate it from coming into play, but once it is in play you cannot prevent it.

Self-referential traits are always active, even if the card is out of play. Absolution will not negate Political Standoff.

So if Political Standoff's self-referential trait prevents it from being discarded, how can it work with Kharmic? Or with the Dynasty province discard?

Well, obviously it wouldn't have Kharmic if it can't be Kharmic due to its trait.

However, for absolute clarity, some technical errata has been issued via Oracle.
