A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If a loss of zero is not a loss, but a card effect has a variable loss such as Dying Remonstration which would cause a loss of zero against it's targeted personality does that mean the effect failed?
If so what ramifications does that have?
If not than i do not understand why that loss of 0 can not be increased.
I apologize for returning to this issue (specially if this is in violation of a rule I am unaware of), but it is a hotly debated issue with a friend of mine that will likely effect deck construction for him if certain clans are prominent.

Yes.

In a game with over 10 000 cards, I'm sure there are plenty.

Because the rules say that a honor loss of 0 doesn't count as causing an honor loss. See here An Honor gain of 0 points is not considered an Honor gain for things that check whether a gain happened. Likewise, an Honor loss of 0 points is not considered an Honor loss for such purposes. Reduction of an Honor gain or loss to 0 points may effectively prevent it. and here: Any change in a stat’s value is considered a bonus (if increased) or penalty (if decreased), with the following exceptions: [...] A bonus or penalty of +0 or -0 is not a bonus or penalty.
If you try to create an honor loss of zero, the effect will be considered to have failed to produce an honor loss.
