L5R CCG Rules board, 4 January 2014 to 5 January 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Card in question: Target two Personalities at any location controlled by the same player. Switch their locations. Straighten each one of them that is not Fallen or Nonhuman. (Home actions may be used from home.)

Scenario: I have Karasu attacking at province A. My opponent defends with one personality at province B, and one at province C. Can I, as my action at battlefield A, switch the positions of his personalities at B and C? If not, what does "At any location" really mean?

Your scenario is a perfectly legal use of Karasu's ability.

At the cost of potentially sounding like a jerk, "at any location" really does mean at any location.

Is this still legal if Karasu is at home and I have Hida Bob attacking province A?

Edit: And: If Karasu targets my 2 own Personalities at Province A, do they straighten, regardless that the movement would fail?

Yes, because Karasu's ability has the Home Keyword. During the battle at province A you can switch the defenders in provinces B and C, even if Karasu is not there (and Hida Bob gives you Presence).

I know it's weird because we're not used to this kind of movement tricks, but the clause "at any location" allows these shenanigans.

Edit: And: If Karasu targets my 2 own Personalities at Province A, do they straighten, regardless that the movement would fail?

Provided they're neither Nonhuman nor Fallen, they will straighten. The movement and the straightening are not linked, they're independent effects.
