Merchant Patronage + Nexus of Lies
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Hmm, I'd say it just might since Merchant Patronage says "You choose who gains or loses honor from IT."
So he'd be losing honor from his own holding's action. If MP's wording said "Cause him to lose the same amount of honor" or something it wouldn't trigger Nexus, but the wording keeps the honor loss generation coming from his own holding. It is a card he owns and it is an honor loss coming from that card.

Here let me give you a hand...
If another player is targeting my dishonoured personality with Exquisite Silk Works, then I use Merchant Patronage to move the honour loss to him instead. Does that constitute an honour loss from his own cards to cause Nexus of Lies to trigger and make him lose more honour?
I think that it will, but since this is the Preview forum, you will have to repost this question on the Rules forum to get an actual official answer.
Yes, that would trigger Nexus of Lies because the source of the honor loss is that player's own card
