Koan's Jingasa

L5R CCG Rules board, 21 December 2013 to 22 December 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

This Personality has Shugenja, may not have more Spells than Koan cards attached, and he need not bow for his Spells with an odd Focus Value (0 is even).

What happens if I have a Shugenja with two Spells on them, and I try to attach Koan's Jingasa?

Does it A - fail to attach B - attach, and prevent any other spells attaching to the shugenja until there are more Koan cards than spells C - something else?

Thanks!

B.

The trait is only active *after* the item has attached. As you can see here, the attachment enters play already in the unit (step E). Since the trait is only active while the card is in play (it makes reference to the Personality, not to the Item itself), it can't prevent its own entering play (step C). Additionally, that same part of the rules (further below in the link) indicates that if an attachment becomes illegal while already in play, it is not discarded. However, it can no longer attach Spells (or have them transferred to him) as long as you don't attach more Koan cards to him.
