Purge of Fudoism + Absolution

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 December 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Howdy! I just had a quick question about this as it came up in our IE game last night. We weren't sure how this would resolve given the elimination of steps to action resolutions...

1) I played Purge of Fudoism, targeted an opponent's card, and destroyed it since the text says "target and destroy." We assumed that this happened in one step. 2) My opponent then targeted one of my cards in an attempt to destroy it BUT I played Absolution to negate the destruction.

We agreed the absolution would save my card but we weren't sure if it would save his card since the destruction had already occurred. Eventually we determined that it probably should save his card since the Absolution says "negate it's effects," which in EE usually meant all of the interrupted cards effects but we wanted to confirm this with the Rules Team.

So the question is: Does the negation only interrupt actions that are occurring and can occur in the future OR does it also retroactively negate all actions in the past as well?

Cheers!

The key here is the window for Interrupts. Interrupts are taken and resolved prior to the action's resolution. In this case the Absolution has to be played before either player destroys the other's Personality.
