L5R CCG Rules board, 18 October 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Before I forget again to ask these...

1) Seppun Sensei vs. On / In Time of War / As the Shadow Falls / War of Dark Fire / Duty to the Empire -> which of these event effects does Seppun prevent, if any?

2) Forgotten Lesson vs. Shoju Sensei -> doesn't do anything right? When you next start your turn, Forgotten Lesson will have expired and the Sensei's effect preventing honor victory will still apply?

3) Flame and Lightning with Daigotsu Eiya vs. Hida Sozen xp / xp2 -> does it destroy Sozen? Would a normal duel suffice (i.e. destruction from Eiya "comes from" his trait, not the action that triggered it)?

Thanks!

1. Seppun Sensei only affects War of Dark Fire. In Time of War and As the Shadow Falls are "will not" effects, which are not Negation, so they won't be affected. And I don't see how Duty to the Empire would interact with Seppun Sensei at all. Did you mean a different card there?

2. Correct, for the reason stated.

3a. Per the rules for resolving duels, printed consequences of losing the duel will occur before additional ones, so Sozen would lose his protection before being destroyed, then die.

3b. No, a regular duel wouldn't suffice. Eiya's trait modifies the duel itself, so the destruction still comes from the action, rather than from him.
