The Tower of Vigilance vs Peace

L5R CCG Rules board, 17 September 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

What is the result of this two cards interaction? Assume I play "Peace", and then bring "The Tower of Vigilance" into play. Is the holding attached to a province of my choice or is it not attached to any province? In the latter case, can I use it's ability at all? And in case that I can, when?

Peace: Cost 0 Keywords Unique Text Limited: Search your Dynasty deck for a non-Unique Holding. Bring it into play (bowed), paying all costs. Focus Value: 4

The Tower of Vigilance: Cost 0 Keywords Fortification Text (Fortifications attach, straightened, to the Province from which they entered play.) Engage, w: If you have any units at this battlefield, create a 0F/2C/2PH Samurai • Guard Personality there. Remove him from the game after this battle ends.

Thank you very much in advance.

Well, according to the rules on Fortifications: "Fortifications are a special type of Holding card. These are defensive structures permanently associated with a particular Province. When brought into play, Fortification Holdings are attached to the Province from which they entered play, or to any of your Provinces if they were not brought into play from a Province."

So, you get to choose any of your provinces to attach the Tower of Vigilance you searched. As usual, you get to use the ability of the Fortification during battles at that province (the one Tower of Vigilance is attached to).
