If a Personality is converted into a Holding via The Governor's Estate, and that Holding in then destroyed by whatever means, is the Personality considered discarded or dead? I'm inclined to think discarded, but for obvious reasons, the Comprehensive Rules aren't explicitly clear here.
The Governor's Estate and holding destruction
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
When entering the discard pile, two physical states of the "holding" card are changing simultaneously: in play <> discarded/destroyed, and face-down <> face-up. There's no rules reason for one to happen before the other, so these changes would both be simultaneous. It would become a face-up Personality that entered the discard pile after being destroyed; in other words, an honorably dead Personality. There's not a split second when the card is face-down in the discard pile, so it would remember it was destroyed and not just discarded, so the "dead" state would apply.
