A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

In light of the changes in the Comprehensive Rules due to Paneki's Mask, I just want to preemptively verify that the ruling on Firm Censure and the Equip action stands, since the Equip action is not from the attachment itself.

Short version: You will no longer be able to bounce the Mask back to your hand if it fails to attach, because it will get discarded instead.
Long version: We have extended the Comprehensive Rules so that not just Strategies, but any card entering play from the hand or deck (face-down, out of play area) due to a deck search or its own action, will enter a resolution area while checking requirements and paying costs. When the resolution area disappears after the action ends, the card in it gets discarded.
This also means that if you search your deck for a card, and are told to put it into play, but something interferes with it so that it doesn't enter play, it is discarded. (Yes, this also means that the reminder text on Sacrifice of Pawns is now unambiguously correct again.) (And yes, it still means that you must choose a card from that search that you can put into play legally under the Good Faith Rule.)

The Equip ability is unaffected by these changes, as the card enters play as an effect from a player ability, rather than as an effect from an ability on the card itself. Since the Equip action's effects are negated, the attachment stays in hand and never enters the entering play area.

So this new ruling http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=102467. Would it discard the spell if I battle equip and they use Entrench position or No time for games to negate the attaching of the spell?
Battle Equip Battle: Any number of times per turn, choose your performing unbowed opposed Shugenja and target a Spell in your hand: Attach it to him, paying all costs. You may take an additional action to use a Battle ability on that Spell.

Same answer as for Equip negated by Firm Censure.
