Doji Kazuo XP and Negation

L5R CCG Rules board, 22 February 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If my Doji Kazuo challenges one of my opponent's Personalities to a Duel of Haiku and the action's effects are negated by something like Astonishing Accusation. The effects of the action (bowing and dishonoring the loser, winner gaining 1 Honor) are negated, but does the duel still occur and my opponent still have to focus a card from hand?

The duel is itself an effect of the action, specifically of the procedural kind. Since Astonishing Effects negates all effects, this includes the entire duel procedure, that never occurs, and Kazuo XP's first trait is never triggered.
