Blade of Truths

L5R CCG Rules board, 17 January 2013 to 19 January 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Blade of Truths + Shattered Focus.

I enter a duel with a personality and react with the attached Blade of Truths naming Focus Value 4. My opponent has only one card in his hand which is a 4.

He says he can not focus.

1. i believe he can from the top of his deck (he doesn't know the focus value until it is played face down). 2. if he has to focus from the top of his deck (due to Shattered Focus), and he reveals it as a 4, is it discarded or has it already been focused and it counts?

thanks Josh

1. Yes, he may still focus the top card from his Fate deck. Barring some special effects (ala Sezaru), he doesn't know in advance the focus value of the card so he may still focus it. However... 2. ...if it is revealed to be a 4, it'll be discarded and not be counted towards determining the duel outcome.

From the Legacy rules about duels: "If any of these cards is revealed to be an illegal focus, discard it immediately."
